Joi is unmarried. She has never had a truly serious relationship; she has spent her life waiting for Mark Sauer. She has had several lovers of both sexes, the most recent being Linda Harris, the woman who runs "The Purple Box" LGBT book store.
Joi is an adrenalin junkie. She enjoys expensive Nepalese hashish (use: infrequent) and sees violence as foreplay. Most often heard saying "If I had my choice, I would have become a professional Dominatrix." She collects the anthropomorphic art of Robert Hill, with the centerpiece being a life-size Bondage Bear drawing. She enjoys the work of the writer Edwin Morrow and dabbles in writing erotic SF/bondage stories. Her 3rd-floor walk-up apartment above the tailor shop is at the rear of the building (giving easy escape to the back alley) and resembles a traditional Hong Kong apartment. She has access to the roof of her building via the public hall outside her door, and sometimes goes up there. She is known to meditate using burning gunpowder as incense.
She first appeared in "Only Death Gets Your Respect" which is scheduled to appear in the Winter 2009 issue of Mensa's Calliope
